Caring for Our Seniors
Our over 55's project for Albanians in the UK is needed because many face isolation, poor health, language barriers, and difficulty accessing services. Unlike younger migrants, they are less likely to have strong social or community networks, and many struggle with limited English, low digital skills, mobility issues, and a lack of knowledge about available support. Cultural differences, pride, mistrust, and fear of losing independence can also prevent them from seeking help. These challenges are often made worse by the lasting impact of communist regime, which left many older Albanians with deep mistrust of institutions, trauma, and difficulty speaking about mental health. A culturally appropriate project would provide a safe and familiar space for them to connect with other Albanian elders, reduce loneliness, and build confidence. Through activities like arts and crafts, alongside access to trusted professionals, Nene Tereza project would improve wellbeing and help them engage with health, care, and community services more effectively.
Wellbeing
Many in this generation spend long periods at home, feeling disconnected and unsure where to turn for support. This project is dedicated to tackling these challenges and helping our elders feel confident, supported, and included.
